Severe snowstorms make the most of the United States of the northeast and eastern Canada was paralyzed and electricity to around half a million homes off.

"This is a large-scale storm," said Boston Mayor Thomas Menino.
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick's state decides to ban people driving on the roads unless absolutely urgent.
The same is done in the state of Connecticut.
"People should consider this storm seriously. Staying at home when the weather is bad unless urgent," said Gov. Dannel Malloy.
The thickness of snow in parts of the northeastern United States reached 60 centimeters to almost a meter and snow is expected to continue to fall.

Authorities asked residents to stay at home during a snowstorm.
Five states along the east coast, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, and Maine declared emergencies. Millions of residents in the five states it is recommended to remain in the house.
Fuel shortages have been reported ranging from Connecticut to New York City after city car owners lined up to buy oil at public refueling station to fill the tank of a vehicle, generator and snow blower.
Nearly all flights in areas affected by the snow storm canceled and train services are also suspended.
Meanwhile, cities in eastern Canada, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland was also hit by a snowstorm.
Local media reported there were 200 traffic accidents in Ontario so far. At least three people were killed.
